PepsiCo Chief Indra Nooyi interacts with Prof Lama

The $ 65 billion (Rs 4,35,500 crore) multinational company PepsiCo is the largest beverage and food company in the world today.  Its annual income is much higher than many countries in the eorld including Bhutan and Maldives. Indra Nooyi is the Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of PepsiCo headquartered in New York in United States. Among many heads of world corporate giants gathered in the recently held Asia Summit in Singapore, Prof Mahendra P Lama had a brief meeting with Indra Nooyi.  Prof Lama who also spoke in the Asia Summit invited many world companies to come and invest in Darjeeling and the North East Region of India which are gradually emerging as the major investment destination in India.

The recipe for the soft drink Pepsi was first developed in the 1880s by Caleb Bradham, a pharmacist and industrialist from  North Carolina in US. He coined the name "Pepsi-Cola" in 1898. While Pepsi Cola reaches Rimbik’s remotest village in Darjeeling, its head Indra Nooyi routinely sleeps for just four hours. In a brilliant exposition of how modern day CEO could be irrelevant if they are not intellectually alert and strategise the companies war games from the frontline, she narrated how she has fought on gender issues.  When she started in 1970s, she had to work more than double the man, just to prove that she is capable and talented like her male counterparts. In the remaining twenty hours of her day she grapples with lifelong learning as what you learn today becomes irrelevant.

Today the top 22 PepsiCo brands are Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Lay's, Gatorade, Tropicana, 7 Up, Doritos, Lipton Teas, Quaker Foods, Cheetos, Mirinda, Ruffles, Aquafina, Pepsi Max, Tostitos, Mist Twist, Fritos, and Walkers. She is a voracious reader and national of each country where PepsiCo has reached. She has the audacity and commands the power to say to others  “hey listen to me”.  Indra Nooyi  Nooyi  who was declared as the number 1 on Fortune's list of the "50 Most Powerful Women in the world.,  strives for ‘sustainability trio’ i.e. human-environmental -talent. How peoples choices have shifted from full sugar soda to diet and sodium less drink and finally to plain water and how she started recognizing the talents from within the industry, Indra Nooyi made  hugely sensible remarks. It is her famous ‘purpose with performance’ dictum which has now mesmerized the global corporate community.
