Chief Minister Pema Khandu was given a rousing welcome as he made his maiden visit to Bhalukpong by the Gorkha Welfare Society under West Kameng district after becoming the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister, who is on route to Tawang district for a six-day visit for the upcoming Tawang festival, first arrived at Bhalukpong from Itanagar.
Addressing a public gathering, Pema said, “Bhalukpong is true mini-Arunachal and mini-India”. On the occasion, he recalled former Chief Minister Gegong Apang who had first coined those words for the town.
Cultural troupes from Sajolang, Hrusso, Galo, Apatani, Nyishi, Gorkha, Bihari and various other communities formed the part of the crowd who were present to welcome the Chief Minister, reflecting the cultural diversity of the town.
Corresponding with TheDC, Mr. Sam Tamang of GWS, Bhalukpong said, "CM sir highly appreciated our welfare activities and said that his support will always be there for us."
The Gorkha community felicitated the CM Pema Khandu with Gorkha topi, Khada and Khukuri.
