Lohagarh including three other villages under Mirik block of GTA has been cut-off from the rest of the world as the diversion constructed over River "Guye Khola" of Lohagarh collapsed last night after torrential rainfall since past four days.

Residents of Potong, Khaprel, Hilley Jhora, Nole Danra including Lohagarh Tea Garden workers, security personals of SSB and Darjeeling police are stranded after diversion constructed along collapsed bridge of section 20 of the garden washed away on Friday night.

An alternative route via Manjha Bridge is also blocked after river changed its course and flooded all along the banks damaging road.

The vehicular movement came into halt after both the routes blocked resulting hundreds of students, tea workers, SSB Jawans, police personals are confined in their villages.

Prasanjit Kullu SSB Jawan said that being a security personal it is very important to have road connectivity and after the diversion collapsed it will be difficult to carry necessary items to the camp where Jawans are guarding Indo-Nepal border.

Biswakabi Sharma along with his family members were stranded as the vehicles could not enter Lohagarh. He said, "We came from Mirik to see our ailing elder sister but unfortunately could not as our vehicle could not cross the river. The bridge was collapsed some five years back but new construction could not make due to negligence of the state government as they have not sanctioned any funds."

He held GTA authority, State Government and Central government equally responsible for the negligence. "How can people come out for any emergency works and treatment for the patients if there is no road connectivity," Sharma asked.

Today afternoon engineers from Kurseong Engineering Department and Irrigation Department under GTA headed by Tilak Gurung president of GJM Kurseong block, Harihar Acharya, Santosh Rasaily Ramesh Pradhan rushed to the spot to see the situation.

Harihar Acharya said, "Engineers have surveyed the area and informed that initially a strong diversion will be constructed and the work will be started from Sunday to meet the crisis. The works also will be started along Manjha River for motorable road to connect with Chenga and Panighatta.
