Child trafficking racket busted, 137 boys rescued in Surat

Around 137 children of age group between 10 and 16 years brought from Rajasthan and other states for household and factory work were rescued from a housing society in Surat early on Sunday.

Officials said multiple agencies conducted a raid around 5.30 am at three building blocks in Sitaram Nagar Society in Pankaj Nagar of Surat from where the children, all boys, were rescued. They also detained around 30 people on charges of human trafficking and were being questioned, officials said. They children were involved in work, in violation of the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act, which prohibits child labour.

According to police, the detained accused were living with the children in the housing society. Out of the 137 children, 128 are from Rajasthan while others are from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.

The raid was conducted by Gujarat CID Crime (Women Cell), Gujarat Police, Rajasthan Police, Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi’s NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan’s New Delhi, Rajasthan and Gujarat units, as well as officials of child rights commissions from Gujarat and Rajasthan.

“We received information regarding the presence of children in a housing society in Surat and a raid was conducted jointly with other agencies. Parents of most of the children were aware that their kids are being sent to Gujarat to work, due to unemployment and acute poverty in their surroundings. However, employing a child below the age of 14 in any work and below the age of 18 in a serious, hazardous condition is illegal according to JJ Act,” said Anil Pratham, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) CID Crime (Women Cell).

According to officials present during the raid, the kids were allegedly sold in Rajasthan and then brought to Surat in different groups. “Out of the 30 accused, each was handling a group of 4-5 children and they used to stay in rented apartments of the housing society. A few days ago, Bachpan Bachao Andolan of Rajasthan had done a recce of the place and then shared the information with its Gujarat counterpart. After that Delhi unit of Bachpan Bachao Andolan and CID Crime was also brought in and a decision was taken to conduct a raid on Sunday. We are interrogating the accused go find out about their network,” an official said on condition of anonymity.

“They were kept in inhuman conditions and were made to work in the textile sector, hotels and as domestic workers. Most of the children are from tribal areas of Rajasthan and were trafficked to Surat to provide cheap labour,” said Shailendra Pandya, member of the Rajasthan State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. He said further action would include counselling of children to help them overcome the distress of being child labourers, and lodging of a case in Rajasthan.

जनरल बिपिन रावत बने पहले चीफ ऑफ डिफेंस स्टाफ, जानें क्‍या होंगी शक्तियां

नई दिल्ली, आइएएनएस। देश के पहले चीफ ऑफ डिफेंस स्टाफ (सीडीएस) के तौर पर जनरल बिपिन रावत के नाम पर मुहर लग गई है। सोमवार को सरकार ने इसकी जानकारी दी। प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने 15 अगस्त को यह पद सृजित करने का एलान किया था और 24 दिसंबर को कैबिनेट की बैठक में इसे मंजूरी दी गई। सीडीएस की भूमिका तीनों सेनाओं और सरकार के बीच समन्वयक की रहेगी। कारगिल युद्ध के बाद से ही इस तरह के पद की मांग उठ रही थी। उस समय रिपोर्टों में यह सामने आया था कि सेनाओं के बीच समन्वय की कमी के कारण युद्ध में ज्यादा नुकसान उठाना पड़ा था।

पद सृजित किए जाने के बाद से ही जनरल बिपिन रावत को पहला सीडीएस बनाए जाने की चर्चा थी। रविवार को सरकार ने सीडीएस के लिए अधिकतम उम्र सीमा को बढ़ाकर 62 से 65 साल कर दिया था। इसे भी इस पद पर जनरल रावत की नियुक्ति से जोड़कर देखा जा रहा था। जनरल रावत सेना प्रमुख के पद से मंगलवार को रिटायर होने जा रहे हैं। 16 मार्च, 1958 को जन्मे जनरल रावत मार्च, 2020 में 62 साल के हो जाएंगे।

ट्विटर पर शुभकामनाओं की बाढ़

सीडीएस पद पर जनरल रावत की नियुक्ति की खबर आते ही ट्विटर पर शुभकामनाओं की बाढ़ आ गई। पंजाब के मुख्यमंत्री कैप्टन अमरिंदर सिंह ने ट्वीट किया, 'जनरल बिपिन रावत को देश का पहला सीडीएस बनने पर बधाई। सशस्त्र बलों से संबंधित सभी मसलों के प्रधान सैन्य सलाहकार के नए मिशन के लिए मेरी शुभकामनाएं।' भाजपा नेता बैजयंत जय पांडा ने भी उन्हें बधाई दी। कई ट्विटर यूजर्स ने भी उन्हें बधाई और शुभकामनाएं दीं।

इसलिए पड़ी जरूरत

युद्ध की स्थिति में तीनों सेनाओं के बीच समन्वय सबसे बड़ी चुनौती रहती है। युद्ध के बदलते हालात में देश की सुरक्षा को देखते हुए इस समन्वय की जरूरत और भी बढ़ गई है। सीडीएस की नियुक्ति से इसमें मदद मिलेगी। तीनों सेनाओं को समान गति से बढ़ाने में भी मदद मिलेगी।

यह है प्रस्ताव

सीडीएस की भूमिका रक्षा व इससे जुड़े मामलों में प्रधानमंत्री व रक्षा मंत्री के एकीकृत सलाहकार की होगी। इसके लिए रक्षा मंत्रालय में 'डिपार्टमेंट ऑफ मिलिट्री अफेयर्स' के नाम से नया विभाग गठित होगा और सीडीएस इसके सचिव होंगे। यह विभाग केवल सैन्य क्षेत्र से जुड़े मामले देखेगा। सीडीएस का उद्देश्य सेनाओं को ट्रेनिंग, स्टाफ व अन्य अभियानों के लिए एकीकृत करना होगा। सरकार को बेहतर सैन्य सुझाव भी मिल सकेंगे।

भूमिका और जिम्मेदारी

सीडीएस की नियुक्ति के बाद भी तीनों सेना प्रमुख विशेष मामलों को लेकर रक्षा मंत्री को सलाह देते रहेंगे। सीडीएस को किसी कमांड के लिए कोई भूमिका नहीं निभानी होगी। सीडीएस रक्षा संपदा परिषद और रक्षा प्लानिंग कमेटी के सदस्य होंगे। वह ऑपरेशन, ट्रेनिंग, कम्युनिकेशन और मेंटिनेंस जैसी अन्य बातों के लिए तीनों सेनाओं के एकीकरण पर काम करेंगे।

एनसीए का भी सैन्य सलाहकार होगा सीडीएस

सीडीएस परमाणु कमांड अथॉरिटी (एनसीए) का भी सैन्य सलाहकार होगा। साइबर और अंतरिक्ष से संबंधित तीनों सेनाओं की एजेंसियां, संगठन और कमान भी उसके अधीन काम करेंगे

अत्यन्तै रुचाइएको यो जोडीको सम्बन्ध बिच्छेद भएपछि यो जोडीका फ्यानहरु दुखित बनेका छन् ।गायक ढकाल र निलमले सम्बन्धविच्छेद गर्न मञ्जुर छौं भनी मिलापत्र गरेको बताइएको छ । सम्बन्धविच्छेदको निवेदन ढकालले कानुनी रुपमा मान्यता पाएसँगै सम्बन्धविच्छेद भएको हो।

A girl from Assam aged 20 years was rescued last night from Khalpara. According to sources she was sold to a lady named Mona, three months ago in the Red Light area of Khalpara.

The girl tried to escape but was caught and brutally thrashed and forced into Prostitution by Mona. Mona is a famous red light owner of Siliguri.

Two days ago, Kanchenjunga Udhar Kendra were informed about her. Investigation was started and they were successfull in rescuing her. 

Today the girl will be presented before the Siliguri Court.

A blind footballer from Bhimbahar near Siliguri made everyone proud

Jaydeep Kindo a class eight student of Bhimbahar Blind School have made everyone proud after winning ‘Promising Youngster’ award during Indo-Japan Blind Team B Football match held at Kerala recently.

Jaydeep son of a tea garden worker and resident of Tin Line in Bijay Nagar Tea Estate near Naxalbari is promising footballer since he was nine years old.

Being a blind footballer one cannot not imagine that Jaydeep can score goal like other players who have full vision.

Rajkumar Naskar, blind teacher of Naxalbari informed that Jaydeep along with four others were selected by the selection team who have visited Bhimbahar School for national team.

Finally only Joydeep was selected to play for international match with Japan held from 17th to 20th December 2019 at Kerala. From Bengal only two players were selected, one Jaydeep and another Rajkumar Bhagat of Navdeep, Kolkata.

Jaydeep said that he is proud to participate in the international match representing his school where he learnt everything and got support from teachers.

He said that he is aiming to play in more international matches and make his school and India feel proud.

 सूत्र, नागराकाटा: यात्रियों को ले जा रही टोटो व छोटे वाहन की टक्कर में पांच लोग घायल हुए। इसमें चार महिलाएं शामिल है। सभी टोटो में सवार थे। यह घटना गुरुवार शाम को चालसा-बाताबाजी जाने वाली 31 नंबर राजमार्ग से सटे टियावन इलाके में हुई है। घायलों को स्थानीय लोगों की मदद से मंगलबाड़ी ग्रामीण अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया। यहां एक महिला की हालत गंभीर होने के कारण उसे माल सुपर स्पेशियलिटी अस्पताल में रेफर कर दिया गया। जानकारी के अनुसार महिलाएं मंगलबाड़ी बाजार से टोटो लेकर बाताबाड़ी की ओर जा रही थी। इस दौरान एक छोटे वाहन के साथ टोटो की जोरदार टक्कर हो गई। इस सड़क हादसे में टोटो में मौजूद सभी यात्री घायल हो गए। मौके पर पहुंची पुलिस ने दुर्घटनाग्रस्त टोटो व वाहन अपने कब्जे में ले लिया है।

Superstition: As the last solar eclipse of 2019 captures everyone's attention, a village in Karnataka's Kalburgi was seen burying their disabled children in sand.

Several families in Kalburgi were seen following this superstitious belief of burying their mentally and physically disabled children neck-deep in sand hoping to cure them of their illness.

As per a superstitious belief, if disabled children are buried in sand during a solar eclipse they can be cured. 

This was the last solar eclipse of the year 2019 and it was an annular one. An annular eclipse occurs when the moon covers the sun`s centre, leaving the sun`s outer edges visible to form a `ring of fire` or annulus around the moon.

There many other bizarre superstitions associated with solar eclipse that are still believed and followed by many.

One such rule dictates that no food should be cooked during the eclipse. And that leftover foods should be consumed before the eclipse is over.

Another rile prohibits the worshipping or touching of idols of gods during this period. Even doors of temples are usually closed during eclipses.

After an eclipse, people are directed to take a bath, and change into fresh and clean clothes. 

Even doing routine activities like sleeping, urinating, defecating, sexual intercourse is prohibited during the eclipse period.

Morcha youth wing calls off Darjeeling strike - Tamang also announced two marches as part of the protest

The youth wing of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has withdrawn the 24-hour general strike it called in the Darjeeling hills on December 29 following an appeal by party president Binay Tamang not to inconvenience tourists.

The Gorkha Janmukti Yuva Morcha, which is allegiant to the Tamang faction of the parent party, had called the strike to protest the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the National Register of Citizens and to demand introduction of Inner Line Permit in the hills.

Tamang, who was in Siliguri on Thursday, said: “The hills are into celebrations on the occasion of Christmas and New Year’s Day. Thousands of tourists are in the hills now to enjoy their holidays. I appreciate the manner in which our youths have come forward to protest the CAA and the NRC and hope they will stand by us as we continue our movement. But I have simultaneously urged them to withdraw the December 29 strike so that locals and tourists do not face any inconvenience.”

Following Tamang’s appeal, leaders of the Yuva Morcha held a meeting to discuss the plea.

Later, Amrit Yonzon, the Yuva Morcha president, said: “The party president spoke to us and said the strike should be withdrawn. We held a meeting and decided to withdraw it.”

After the violent agitation for Gorkhaland in 2017, Tamang had declared the hills a strike-free zone.

Tamang also announced two marches as part of the protest.

Morcha supporters will take out a rally from Darjeeling to Kurseong on December 29. On January 5, they will walk downhill (from Kurseong) and the march will conclude at Darjeeling More in Siliguri,” Tamang said.

The first march will cover a distance of around 40km. The second procession is for a distance of nearly 38km.

The BJP had organised a rally in Siliguri on Tuesday in support of the CAA.

“We have seen the photos and videos of the BJP’s rally. The presence of Gorkhas in the rally was negligible. It is clear that the Gorkhas are against the CAA and NRC,” Tamang said on Thursday.

Travel operators welcomed the withdrawal of the strike call.

“We have thanked Binay Tamang in writing for his appeal and welcome the decision by the youths of his party to withdraw the strike. It would send a good message to tourists who are visiting the hills now. It is a great relief for us as many of us have started altering itineraries of tourists, particularly those who are supposed to arrive or leave on December 29,” said Samrat Sanyal, general secretary, Himalayan Hospitality and Tourism Development Network.

Trinamul leaders in Siliguri said they had suggested two routes for Mamata Banerjee’s march against the CAA and the NRC in Siliguri on January 3.

“We have proposed the Tinbatti More-AH 2-Burdwan Road-Hill Cart Road-Darjeeling More route. The other route is from Tinbatti More to Hashmi Chowk through AH 2, Burdwan Road and Hill Cart Road. It is up to our party supremo and the state leadership to take a decision,” said Ranjan Sarkar, the Darjeeling (plains) district Trinamul chief.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a 25-ft bronze statue of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Lucknow today, which is also the veteran's birth anniversary.

According to reports, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had requested Modi to unveil the statue. Sculpted by famous sculptor Raj Kumar Pandit of Jaipur, this statue is going to be the tallest statue in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

The prime minister was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

The statue is a tribute to Vajpayee who co-founded the BJP and also served as five-time MP of Lucknow.

মাননীয় সাংসদ দার্জিলিং শ্রী রাজু বিস্তা মহাশয়ের সাথে দ্বিতীয় সেবক সেতুর নির্মাণ এর দাবি  নিয়ে সবিস্তারে আলোচনা হয় এবং তিনি সেবক দ্বিতীয় সেবক সেতুর প্রাসঙ্গিকতার সাথে সহমত প্রসন করে আমাদের আসস্ত করেছেন যে তিনি এই ব্যাপারে সম্পূর্ণ সহযোগিতা করবেন এর সাথে তিনি কেন্দ্রীয় মন্ত্রী সড়ক পরিবহন দপ্তর শ্রী নিতিন গড়করি মহাশয়ের সাথে আলোচনা করে দ্রুত দ্বিতীয় সেবক সেতু নির্মাণকার্য শুরু করবার প্রক্রিয়া করাবেন বলে আসস্ত করেছেন l আমাদের ফোরাম এর পক্ষ থেকে আমাদের সম্পাদক ওনাকে অনুরোধ করেন  যাতে আমাদের এই রিজিওন এর ৩ জন সাংসদ মিলে এই দাবিটি  তুলে ধরেন তবেই দীর্ঘ দিনের এই স্বপ্ন পূরণ হবে । বিশেষ করে বর্ষাকালে এই রাস্তা চলাচল করা আমাদের জন্য খুবই দুর্যোগপূর্ণ ও প্রত্যেক এর জীবন  হাতে  নিয়ে যাওয়ার মত হই । আমরা খুবই  আশাবাদী  রাজ্য সরকার এবং কেন্দ্র সরকার মিলে আমাদের এই দাবি পূরণ করবার জন্য দ্রুত পদক্ষেপ নেবেন  । আমাদের পক্ষ থেকে বিভিন্ন সময় যেই রিপোর্ট বা তথ্য সংগ্রহ করা হইছিলো সেইগুলো সব মাননীয় সাংসদ এর  হাতে তুলে দেওয়া হয় । সাংসদ মহাশয় খুব সুন্দর ভাবে আমাদের দাবি নিয়ে আমাদের পুরো টীমকে সাধুবাদ জানান এত জরুরি একটি দাবি ওনার কাছে তুলে ধরবার  জন্য । 

আমরা খুব আশাবাদী কিন্তু বিগত  দিনে আমরা বিভিন্ন মহলে  অনেক আশ্বাস  পেলেও, কোনোরূপ কাজের অগ্রগতি হতে দেখিনি l

এইবার আমরা পুরো টীম নিশ্চিত একত্রিত হয়েছি যতক্ষণ পর্যন্ত না আমাদের "দ্বিতীয় সেবক সেতুর নির্মাণের " কাজ শুরু হচ্ছে  ততদিন পর্যন্ত আমাদের আন্দোলন চলছে চলবে ।

প্রত্যেক সদস্যকে ও ডুয়ার্স অঞ্চলের সমগ্র স্তরের মানুষের কাছে অনুরোধ এই ভাবেই আমাদের  পাশে থাকবার ও সহযোগিতার  অনুরোধ জানাই ।

Pangolin seized, 5 Bhutanese arrested in Siliguri

Acting on a tip-off, North Bengal Police arrested 5 Bhutan nationals in Siliguri and seized a pangolin worth Rs 6 lakhs from their possession.

Kept in a biscuit carton, the pangolin was being smuggled to Bangladesh via Siliguri, police informed on Friday.

A vehicle bearing Bhutanese registration has also been seized by the police.
The identity and details about the five arrested have not been revealed due to security reasons.

Police informed that the five men are part of an international wildlife smuggling racket.

Police produced the five at the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Jalpaiguri and two have been remanded to police custody and the remaining three to Judicial custody.
Later, the Pangolin was released in the Bengal Safari in Siliguri.

Pangolins’ scales and flesh fetch high amounts in the international markets hence they are highly vulnerable to poaching.
