Roshni Ghimirey from Singtam has become the first model from Sikkim to secure a direct entry to the grand finale of fbb Colors Femina Miss India 2017.
The 18-year-old was crowned Miss India Sikkim during the east zonal auditions of the beauty pageant held at Kolkata on March 28. She will represent Sikkim as ‘Miss India Sikkim’ in the Miss India finale to be held at Mumbai in June.
Roshni will be among the 30 models from each States competing for the coveted crown. Along with Roshni, two other models Prerna Pradhan and Aneela Norbu were pitted for the Miss India Sikkim title in the zonal audition that saw selection of Miss India nominees for 13 eastern Indian States including Sikkim.
A second year student of Sikkim Government College, Tadong in Gangtok, Roshni was among the top 10 finalists of Miss Sikkim 2016. She was shortlisted for the Kolkata auditions by Miss India organisers earlier in 2017, along with the two other models from the State. The trio was among the seven models who had applied for the audition.
Bollywood actress Dipannita Sharma is the mentor for the 13 Miss India representatives from eastern India and also one of the judges in the grand finale. Football Icon Bhaichung Bhutia and singer Usha Uthup were among the jury members in the regional audition, which provided Roshni a direct entry to Miss India finale. The finalists of fbb Colors Femina Miss India 2017 will undergo vigorous training from the best experts of the industry.
TGIF! had a freewheeling conversation with Roshni Ghimirey on her feat, journey in modelling, expectations and preparations for the grand finale. Read on…
Entry into modelling
Roshni: Even as a kid, I always wanted to take part in Miss India, so it has been a dream come true. In between, the childhood ambition took a different course where I saw myself becoming a future doctor. While in college, I auditioned for Miss Sikkim and got selected.
Edge over other contestants
Roshni: I tried to keep it simple and I guess that helped me over other contestants. Overdoing will spoil the broth whether I am answering a question or when I am walking the ramp.
Your driving force
Roshni: I consider my mom as my biggest support. It was she who gave my interest in taking part in Miss Sikkim the necessary push. She gave me courage to take the step and yet again for the Kolkata audition, she asked me to go ahead. Both my parents accompanied me for the auditions.
Inspiration
Roshni: Priyanka Chopra, largely because she too came from a humble background and a small State. Now, she is a global icon. So, I look up to her.
Response on the selection
Roshni: There is a lot of catching up to do with my friends and family. My family is very excited about my selection while, few of my friends came over to congratulate me while those in college are still unaware about my selection (laughs).
Wardrobe in the audition
Roshni: The audition in itself was divided into three rounds. In the modern India attire I wore a Ghagra with blouse designed by Shravan Kumar, for the fbb brand round I belted my Kurta with Plazzo with boots as part of the brand's new collection ‘Ateesa' and for the evening gown round I wore a black gown designed by Komal Swan themed as 'Black Swan'.
Experience
Roshni: Having been a part of Miss Sikkim, I thought I had aced ramp walk but during the auditions we were trained by supermodel Allesia Raut, which made me realize that I knew only the basics. There is a whole different world to ramp walk. The personal interviews went fine.
Edge over other finalists
Roshni: I am a very ambitious and hard working person. So that would serve as my USP. Besides that, I am resilient so failure will not affect me much. Yet, I am an optimistic that I can win the title.
Weakness
Roshni: I am not spontaneous. I tend to perceive the question from every aspect before I answer. It has its boon but works as a bane in beauty pageant.
Preparations
Roshni: I am updating myself with a lot of current affairs in order to tackle the questions in the grand finale. Also, I am working on my fitness by hitting the gym.
Switch to cinema
Roshni: I am interested in making the leap to Bollywood but first Miss India stands as my goal. I have always been interested in Bollywood. I am very versatile with Bollywood dance genre along with other dance forms as well. With no formal training, I try to teach myself.
Life mantra
Roshni: The world would judge you anyway, so just follow your heart.
Last word
Roshni: I would urge the people of Sikkim to help me win Miss India by liking my posts in my official pages in Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The social media pages are being scrutinized and based on the likes, my chances of winning the Miss India crown draws closer.
