उनको जन्म बुबा बलभद्र र आमा रेनुकाको कोखबाट वि.सं. १९९९ साल असोज १६मा भएको हो। उनले साढे एक वर्षमै बुबा गुमाए। यही बेला गाउँमा चलेको महामारीका कारण आमासँगै उनी भारतको डुअर्सको चियाबगान पुगे, जहाँ उनका जीवनका ३१ वसन्त बिते। बिस्तारै आमाको अवस्था पनि कमजोर हुँदै गएपछि कम उमेरमै उनले पारिवारिक दायित्व सम्हाल्नुपरेको थियो। जस्तोसुकै विपत्तिमा पनि संगीतप्रतिको उनको लगाव जारी नै रह्यो, 'संगीत प्रभाकर' सम्म उनले अध्ययन गरे।

तीसको दशकको सुरुवातसँगै उनको सांगीतिक जीवनले मोड लियो। वि.सं. २०३० सालमा काठमाडौंमा भएको 'अधिराज्यव्यापी राष्ट्रिय गीत प्रतियोगिता'मा उनले गाएको 'होसियार यसबखत समयको मुखलाई चिन...' प्रथम भयो र उनले स्वर्ण पदक प्राप्त गरे। यस गीतका संगीतकार तथा रचनाकार अम्बर गुरुङले पनिस्वर्ण पदक प्राप्त गरेकाका थिए।

प्रतियोगितामा प्रथम भएपछि रेडियो नेपालमा जागीरे भए भक्तराज। त्यसयता वि.सं. २०४६ सालसम्ममा उनले साढे चार सय गीत रेकर्ड गरिसकेका थिए। दुई दर्जनबाहेक सबै गीत उनले आफ्नै रचनामा तयार पारेका थिए। उनले धेरैजसो भजन र त्यसबाहेक आधुनिक, गजल, राष्ट्रिय, बालगीत लगायत कोएर, ब्यालेट, ब्यानटाटा (कविता गायन) र फिल्मको पाश्र्व गायनसमेत गरेका छन्। युगल गीत भने चारवटा मात्रै गाएका छन्।

वि.सं. २०४६ सालको एक साँझ बौद्धमा सांघातिक हमला भएपछि भक्तराजका टाउकामा झन्डै सयभन्दा बढी टाँका मार्नुपरेको थियो। त्यसयता लगभग उनको गायनयात्रामा विराम लाग्यो।

उनका दुई सुपुत्र सत्यराज र स्वरूपराज पनि नेपाली सुगम संगीतमा स्थापित गायक छन्। [१]

GNLF sticks to Sixth Schedule

Rohini (Kurseong): GNLF leaders returned to their basics here on Sunday and renewed the political campaign over the demand that the Sixth Schedule status be conferred on the hills.

Conferment of the status would pave the way for achieving the GNLF's ultimate demand of the separate state, they said.

Party president Mann Ghisingh, who was present at a meeting here, said: "Our key demand is still the Sixth Schedule status. The Sixth Schedule ke marg par Gorkhaland sambhav hain (Sixth Schedule can help us achieve Gorkhaland). This is our belief."

It was the first public meeting convened by the party after Mann and some other GNLF leaders were put in different posts of the Hill Area Development Committee (HADC) formed by the state.

Mann and some other leaders also took the task of apprising GNLF workers that the committee was an interim arrangement and they were pursuing their demand during the bipartite talks with the state.

"We have heard that there is confusion among some supporters after the HADC has been formed. But we want to make it clear that as I went and attended the meeting at Pintail Village a few days back with the state, we had raised our main demand. The state has formed the committee and has proposed our names as office-bearers. We would, however, assume the charge only after having a clear idea of its power and functions. It is nothing but an interim arrangement and we would never budge from our demand," said the GNLF president.

He also clarified that the HADC was outside the purview of GTA.

A political observer said the state put the hill party in a tricky situation.

"The GNLF leaders had to assert this clarification to pacify supporters as there were murmurs in the hills that the state has played the strategy of floating the committee to appease them. Unless addressed and clarified, such murmurs would have led to serious repercussions for the party that has started regaining its ground in past four-five months after a gap of almost 10 years," said the observer.

Ahead of the meeting, Mann and other leaders went to a local temple in Rohini, a tiny hamlet located around 25km from Siliguri where they performed rituals. Around 5,000 people were present at the meeting.

3 year old sexually assaulted in West Bengal

Even before the state of West Bengal could come to terms with the horrific incident of sexual assault of a 4 year old student by two teachers; a 3 year old was sexually assaulted in Raigunj in North Bengal by her uncle.

The incident took place in Raigunj, the district head quarters of North Dinajpur district. The 3 year old used to regularly visit the house of Bimal Mondal, a distant uncle in the neighbourhood to play with her cousin. On Friday evening too like any other day she had gone to the house to play.

Mondal was alone at home. His wife and daughter had gone out. Taking advantage of this, Mondal allegedly sexually assaulted the three year old.

When the victim returned home she was in great trauma. She even complained of abdominal pain. Her clothes were smeared with blood and she was bleeding profusely.

When questioned by her mother, the victim broke down and narrated the ghastly incident. She was rushed to the Raigunj District Hospital.

"The patient was admitted at the Hospital. She underwent medical examination and treatment. At present her condition is stable" stated Gautam Mandal, Superintendent, Raigunj Hospital.

The parents then lodged an FIR at the Raigunj Police Station. Bimal Mondal tried to give the police a slip. He was not at home when police visited his house to investigate. Later at around 10pm police nabbed him from the Raigunj Bus Stand. The accused is a hawker by profession.

Charged under different section of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act (POCSO,) Bimal Mondal was produced in the Raigunj Court on Saturday.

Meanwhile in the GD Birla School case in Kolkata, the two accused were produced in court on Saturday. The judge granted the prayer of the police and remanded the two accused namely Avisekh Rai and Mohammad Mafizul to police custody. The two will be produced again in court on December 4. They have been charged under different sections of the POCSO Act. The court rejected the bail petition moved by the defence lawyers of the accused.

Incidentally a 4 year old was allegedly sexually assaulted by the two in the school toilet on Friday. Both Rai and Mafizul are Physical Training (PT) teachers in the JD Birla School in Kolkata.

Protests by parents and guardians of the students continued in the school on Saturday. They demanded the immediate arrest of the Principal of the school for trying to hide facts.

A 3 member committee constituted by the Madhya Siksha Parishad of the Education Department after inquiring into the matter has submitted a report to the Government where they have complained of inadequate infrastructure to run a school. The committee is not to happy with the role of the school authorities also.

Incidentally the school is not under CCTV surveillance. After heavy protests the authorities have started installing CCTVs on Saturday. The male and female students of class 11 and 12 use the same toilet also.

Priyanka Tibriwal, the lawyer representing the family of the victim stated that they would be filing a case against the school principal and the trustee members.

Kolkata Police sets up Olympic-standard shooting range for public

Kolkata Police (KP) has set up a modern indoor shooting range of Olympic standard, equipped with electronic target system, for everyone’s use. It was opened to the public on November 11. This is a first-of-its-kind shooting range not only in Kolkata, but in the entire eastern India.

It is located at the Police Training School (PTS) on 247 AJC Bose Road.

According to a post on KP’s Facebook page, the shooting range has been opened with a view to promote shooting as a sport and to provide opportunity to the common people.

Specifically, as the DC (Traffic), who is in charge of the whole process, said during the opening, the primary focus is on creating world-class shooters from Bengal. Bengal has talent; Kolkata Police is just trying to give an opportunity to those talents.

Applications have to be made online. The participants are selected through a draw of lots. Till now, 600 applications have been submitted.

A nominal fee of Rs 100 is charged towards the cost of ammunition and maintenance. For those seriously interested in pursuing the sport, facility for practice is offered at Rs 200 per month.

88 girl students forced to undress as punishment by teachers in Arunachal school

Two assistant teachers and a junior teacher forced 88 students to undress before other students following the recovery of a piece of paper containing vulgar words about the head teacher and a girl student.

Students of a girls’ school in Arunachal Pradesh were allegedly forced to undress by three teachers as a punishment for writing vulgar words against the head teacher.

Eighty-eight students of class VI and VII of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Tani Happa (New Sagalee) in Papum Pare district were subjected to the humiliating treatment on November 23, police said.

The matter, however, came to light on November 27 after the victims approached the All Sagalee Students Union (ASSU), who then filed an FIR with the local police.

According to the complaint, two assistant teachers and a junior teacher forced 88 students to undress before other students following the recovery of a piece of paper containing vulgar words about the head teacher and a girl student.

Papum Pare Superintendent of Police Tumme Amo on Wednesday confirmed the filing of the FIR by ASSU. He said the case has been forwarded to the women police station here.

“The officer in-charge of the (women) police station said the victims and their parents along with the teachers will be interrogated before registering a case,” Amo said.

A team of All Papum Pare District Students Union (APPDSU) had met the students and teachers on Tuesday, and found that an unidentified student had used vulgar words in a piece of paper mentioning the name of the head teacher and a girl student, a release by APPDSU said.

The teachers demanded an explanation from all the 88 students of classes VI and VII, who were later made to undress before the other students as punishment, it said.

“The school authorities did not speak to the parents of the students before punishing them,” APPDSU president Nabam Tado said.

The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has condemned the incident and said such “heinous act” by the teachers might affect the students.

“Tempering with a child’s dignity is against the law as well as the constitution,” it said in a statement.

“To discipline a student is an attitude, character, responsibility and commitment of a teacher. Undressing a student is definitely not a corrective measure...Imposing such punishment is total violation of child rights, and more likely it may accelerate the risk of child abuse,” the party added.

History is in the making for Gosalwar village in Bihar’s Darbhanga district – for the first time since independence, four girls from the village are set to appear for the Class 10 examination next year in March.

Gosalwar has the population of around 1,200 and although it is only three kilometres from the district headquarters, no person from the village has been able to appear, let alone crack the Board Exams. The village does not even have a primary school.

The grit and will of Kavita Kumari, Puja Kumari, Neha Kumari and Geeta Kumari has changed the stigma attached to Gosalwar as a mini world of uneducated people.

“We’ve faced many difficulties due to the distance but somehow my friends and I were able to convince our parents. They are naturally worried about our security,” said Neha, adding that the group was confident of getting good marks in the exams.

Puja was not even aware of the ignominious record till she was in Class 8 and said, “Most of the people thought that we would also drop out like others. However, things have changed and we are now preparing for the exam.”

The Principal of Anandpur High School, Arun Kumar Jha, said that everyone was hopeful that the girls would create history next year. “Many appear for the exams but this batch is different. We have planned to reward the girls if they pass the examination.”

Miss World Manushi Chhillar asks an important question to Indian skipper Virat Kohli

Indian skipper Virat Kohli was once again in news recently after he guided his team to an emphatic win over Sri Lanka in 2nd Test. India defeated the Islanders by an innings and 239 runs.

In other news, Manushi Chhillar recently won the coveted Miss World 2017 crown at a grand event in China, bringing to an end the country’s dry spell of 17 years at the top pageant contest. The two celebrities met each other at an event in the national capital on Thursday.

At the event, the 20-year-old from Haryana, who is a medical student, asked Kohli, "You are one of the best batsmen in the world today. You have been such an inspiration and you have really given a lot to the society. But there are  lot of young people who draw inspiration from you. How would like to give back, especially to children in the field of cricket?"

Kohli, who has changed the mindset of Indian players ever since he took over the captaincy, replied, "What's very important to understand is, when you do what you do, and you express yourself on the field, it has to be genuine, it has to be from the heart. Otherwise, people find out that you are trying to pretend and they can never connect to you. I have never tried to be anyone else. I have always been myself. I have always mentioned people had a lot of issues with how I was, how I conducted myself. I never had problems with that. The moment I started to think that I need to change, is the only time that I changed."

The captain also stressed on the fact that people should not lose their personal identity, as they won't be able to inspire others by trying to be someone else.

"Everyone has to go through a mutual process to be where they get to in life, to become more mature. What's very important to understand is that one should never lose their identity, character and personality. Because if you try to be someone else, you can never succeed and you can never inspire others," he added.
